july 2008 issue 3 release!
We are proud to announce that the third issue of benshotme the magazine is now available!
First, a big thank you to our subscribers, who will have already received their copy of issue 3 in the mail!! We'd like to give the rest of you a sneak peek into our July issue, the tightest issue yet, chock-o-block full of images and road trippy stories. Less words, more photos!
The hidden egghead, which has been lurking in every issue, hides again. We continue to bring you all variety of local music as well as a glimpse at visiting musician Don McCloskey, (sure to rock your stereo) and we are psyched to announce our second guest writer! Mr. James Joiner gives us a behind-the-scenes look into the local publication, C.O.D, that he has masterminded and that ben and I have been shooting and writing for. Shots of Washington D.C., ballet and t-ball kids, more pups in need of adoptive homes and (for those astute readers) the Edward Gorey house and more are all part of issue 3.
It's impossible to describe the vibe of all the photos in this issue but I will say that one of my favorite shots is the cover (hey- that's me!). What's so interesting though is that everyone's got a different favorite shot and you'd never be able to peg who likes what! We'd love to hear what you dig so send us your thoughts at the new feedback link

april 2008, issue 2 news
A galley copy is due imminently. We will then make our final edits and bring this new issue to press. We are presently soliciting requests for pre-orders. Please contact info@benshotme.com if you would like to reserve a copy of the first run of issue 2!
Since the last issue, we've made a few improvements but it's still the same great benshotme style you love, jampacked with photos, stories and (hopefully) humorous adventures! One article we'd like to highlight is the story of "the puppy transport;" a weekly phenomenon of rescue dogs making the brave trek from the south to the north. We also offer up the usual snarky observations from ben and are so pleased to introduce our very first guest writer, the versatile Damien Palanza. Other sections feature gorgeous shots of a local figure drawing session and kind souls who jump into the ocean in the middle of winter for the benefit of their neighbors. We've had pints from New Hampshire to Florida (where we ran into Jerry Springer, though he's not in the mag!) and bring back your favorite "brews and shoes" page (minus the shoes). We've gotten out to see loads of local live music, which we suggest you get out and see wherever you are. In general, we saw lots of you all over the place, doing what you do- working hard, watching movies, making art, playing music, playing sports, swimming, dancing, ice skating, rollerblading, skateboarding...whew! All of this and more (exceptin' Jerry Springer) including our first centerfold, is featured in Issue 2. We've had a such a great time putting this issue together and we can't wait to share it with you.

the magazine
after the holiday hiatus, we have exciting news-- the unveiling of the first issue of our new magazine!
we, ben and erica, have been working feverishly to produce this first issue that is part personal reflections, part anecdotes and heaping helpings of photo essay style photography. we initially plan to publish quarterly covering local, regional and international happenings on a personal level. we both feel there are many activities going on on a rather daily basis that generally don't merit coverage by traditional media outlets such as newspapers or current local magazines. there are communities, gatherings, and people going about their daily lives that lend themselves wonderfully to a creative or journalistic eye. these activities are not necessarily particular "events" yet are interesting and worthy of an in-depth look all the same.
we drew stories for the prototype issue of ben shot me from photos ben has been taking over the last year or two and pulled our short narratives, humorous pieces and stories from the same time frame. future issues however, will be culled from the quarter in which they are published. they will be timely and feature you, your friends, and people you don't know doing what they do on an individual stage; celebrating the everyday. in the tradition of National Geographic and the Day In The Life photo books, we are embarking on an investigation of the people and world around us on a simultaneously large and small scale. in the spirit of imagery inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson and others, we hope to bring people together in a realistic, personal, visual and literary way that also lets them glimpse their world with new eyes.
the next issue will be out around April and we already plan on covering some interesting local phenomena; a night of bingo, trips to the Edward Gorey house and P'town in winter, canal bike fisherman and maybe even the weekly canine rescue transports that arrive from the south and hopefully you, the new readers, will contact us with something you would like to see!
